Bathrooms are a special location under the wiring regulations because of the risk posed by water, and fittings, including extractor fans, need to be rated for the specific zone they’re installed in. We assess the room, fit a fan with the correct IP rating for its location, and, where needed, wire in appropriate controls such as a humidity sensor, timer, or pull-cord switch positioned safely outside the zones that require extra protection. Kitchen extraction has fewer special location requirements but still needs correctly sized ducting and electrical connections to work effectively and safely.

Ceiling fans are heavier than a standard light fitting and need a properly rated ceiling rose or support, plus, in many cases, a fan-rated pull switch or wall control rather than a standard light switch. We check the ceiling structure can support the fan before fitting, the same way we would for a heavy light fixture.
